Media Statement: East Rockingham Project
22 January 2020
New Energy has successfully developed the second large scale waste to energy facility in Perth. Key to our success has been a strong stakeholder engagement particularly with the local community, local government and industry. We are the first company to have received 3 EPA approvals for WtE projects. This $511m project diverts over 285,000 tonnes of residual waste from landfill and exports 29MW to the grid, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 300,000tpa. It will incorporate an Australian first Bottom Ash Aggregate plant producing materials for the road and construction industry. The facility will be constructed over the next 35 months becoming operational in late 2022. It will use internationally proven combustion technology, and will be operated by Suez. It will become part of the new generation of alternative waste treatment in Perth, and part of the solution for sustainable waste management into the future. Read more ›
